The Campaign by President Goodluck Jonathan in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital on Thursday without the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’Azu in attendance has started fueling suspicion that all is still no well between the two.
Newspot Nigeria reports that there has been no official explanation on why the National Chairman of PDP who had attended virtually all the PDP campaigns stayed away for the final laps of the
party’s campaign in Yobe, a most strategic part of the north.
There were reports that the PDP National Chairman has all along been pulling back from the main stream of activities of the party including its campaigns against the backdrop of his personal grouse with the attitude of leading members of the PDP towards the north.
Mu’azu, said to have indicated resolve to resign as the PDP National Chairman some few days ago, according to reports had expressed discontentment to what he considered as insults to the north by the southern members of the party, most especially the First Lady during campaigns.
He had equally been accused by the top echelon of PDP of not showing commitment to the campaign of President Jonathan amid allegations that he had never been seen to either been praising the President or attacking his main challenger in the March 28 Presidential election, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Both the PDP and Mu’azu have at different times dismissed reports on his alleged frosty relationship with the President, affirming that he has been most committed to the expected victory of President Jonathan in the coming Presidential election.
Meanwhile, Jonathan in Yobe state assured the people of North-East that the Federal Government was committed to wiping out the Boko Haram sect completely from the zone and the country.
Speaking at the Palace of the Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashemu II, Jonathan condoled the people of Yobe and families that lost relations to insurgency.
He said, “We are not yet completely saved from the hands of these criminal elements because some of them are living with us. They can sneak in and with their improvised explosive devices cause damages, especially at soft targets.
“But we are working day and night, both the security services and the intelligence services to make sure that we continue to clean our country until we get this Boko Haram menace behind us”.
On why the PDP postponed its campaign in state earlier, Jonathan said since the elections had been extended for six weeks, it was agreed that campaign in Yobe State should held close to the period of the electios as part of the party’s final activities.
He added, “Fortunately we are here today. So, thank you for the patience and thank you for the reception. For me, I am a member of the Emirate council as a title holder; I am in my palace”,
The president told the royal father and the people of Yobe State that PDP meant well for Nigeria, adding that for the past four years as a government, the party has done well and would want to even do more if re-elected.
